Operating through a dual strategic presence—bridging an innovation hub in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, and a sprawling living research landscape of over 70 hectares in the Pyrenees—the Lab unites two distinct environments into a single, cohesive research ecosystem.
At its core, Barony Future Lab was founded upon a single, guiding question:
How can we use science and technology not to drive humans further from nature, but to actively restore the relationship between them?
A LIVING LABORATORY
Barony Future Lab departs from the traditional model of a conventional, indoor research center. We operate as a true Living Lab.
In our experimental ecosystem, forests, water systems, gardens, architecture, human participants, artificial intelligence, environmental sensors, robotics, and artistic practices coexist within the same framework. Research is not confined to white walls; it moves dynamically into the forest, into water bodies, into therapeutic spaces, into sensory gardens, and directly into lived human experience. From there, observations return to science as rigorous, measurable data.
Our ultimate aim is to generate outcomes that extend far beyond academic publications: we engineer prototypes, validate technologies, design therapeutic environments, and build scalable models capable of being transferred to other territories worldwide.

1. Sharjah
Sharjah represents the international and technological dimension of Barony Future Lab. From the United Arab Emirates, we cultivate dynamic relationships with universities, research institutions, technology leaders, artificial intelligence specialists, investors, and global innovation ecosystems. It acts as the connective bridge linking Europe, the Gulf, and Asia, channeling international ideas and collaborations directly into our research pipelines.
2. The Pyrenees
Nestled within approximately 70 hectares of diverse forests, mountain terrain, water systems, and historic structures, our Pyrenean site functions as an un-simulated, real-world experimental environment.

01. Forests, Wildfire and Artificial Intelligence
Global climate change is rapidly destabilizing ecosystems worldwide. Rising temperatures, prolonged droughts, and extreme weather events have triggered unprecedented wildfire risks. Barony Future Lab conducts pioneering research at the intersection of forest ecology, artificial intelligence, and advanced sensing technologies.

Barony Future Lab regularly hosts international researchers, postdoctoral fellows, visual artists, technologists, and interdisciplinary teams. Designed around active research questions, these residencies allow participants to conduct field studies within our Pyrenean landscape while connecting with the global innovation ecosystem in Sharjah. We deliberately break down academic silos, uniting neuroscientists with forest ecologists, AI specialists with psychologists, artists with engineers, and architects with clinicians.

While our primary physical research ecosystems are anchored in the Pyrenees and Sharjah, Barony Future Lab functions as an open, globally connected platform.
